LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - The Republican candidate for Ohio governor stopped by the Allen County Fair to speak with supporters and discuss several issues ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.
Vivek Ramaswamy addressed a crowd at the Allen County Republican Building, focusing on lowering property taxes, ending the state income tax and addressing the growing number of data centers in Ohio.
Ohio currently has more than 200 data centers, with additional facilities under construction. Ramaswamy said that if elected, he would push for what he described as common-sense legislation governing future data center development in the state.
“That means lower electric prices in the immediate community, free electricity for that community, lower property taxes, and then the water's got to be as clean when it comes out as when it went in. More process transparency is important. I don't think these NDAs have served anyone well. I think we need to get rid of them. And then the other thing I would say is the most common sense idea, build it if you're going to build it on abandoned industrial sites, not on fertile farmland,” says Vivek Ramaswamy, Republican Candidate for Ohio Governor.
Ramaswamy also said Ohio needs to add more power to the electric grid than it uses as electricity demand continues to grow.
“So, for me, I think Ohio's naturally blessed. We just have to do a better job of taking advantage of our natural resources, use natural gas, welcome the next generation of nuclear energy. And do it in a way that also tells the data centers that you have to deliver lower electric bills, and if you don't, it's not going to get built,” says Ramaswamy.
Ramaswamy will face Democrat Amy Acton and Libertarian Don Kissick in the Nov. 3 general election.
