LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The Shred-A-Thon returned to the Area Agency on Aging 3 to help protect the community’s identity.
At its Allentown Road location, dozens of cars drove through to drop off sensitive documents such as check stubs, medical forms and receipts containing names, addresses or Social Security numbers. Once collected, the documents were shredded. The Shred-A-Thon is held in May and September each year as a way to help prevent identity theft.

“There are a lot of scams in the area and across the United States, whether it's online or people calling, and we want to make sure that we protect the identity of our residents here locally. So, we want to make sure that we're getting those things, getting rid of them and people aren't filling out stuff that they shouldn't be or sending back stuff they shouldn't be,” says Jolene Highley, Director of Marketing & Communications, Area Agency on Aging 3.
Also featured at the event was CarFit, where employees assisted older drivers in making sure their driver’s seat fits correctly.
