LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Dozens of children took advantage of their snow day Tuesday by heading to the sled hill at Faurot Park, where kids of all ages spent the day racing, sliding and braving the cold for another trip down the slope.

Snowboards, tubes, big sleds, small sleds and, in some cases, no sled at all were enough to keep them climbing back up the hill for another run. Each child appeared to have a personal strategy for getting down the hill the fastest and the farthest. Jay Krieg, who was spending his snow day away from St. Charles, shared his sledding approach.

"When you're riding this, you gotta lean back, because if you go forward, you'll, like, roll down the whole hill and then, but if you do, if you leap forward, it gets all over your face, then you just want to go home."

Myla Lynch of Spencerville said she simply enjoys the experience.

"I like about this, about I like all the snow, and I like to sled a lot."

St. Charles student Sam Newland offered his own tips for speed.

"So if you're like, riding a big sled, make sure that you're like, flat, like your stomach's flat on the sled. So then, like, so then you're gonna have to go as fast as you can down."

Some children hung out on snow piles, while snowballs flew overhead and adults waited nearby, keeping warm around a fire.
