SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WLIO) - The UAW Local 2075 Veterans Committee honored fallen service members on Saturday through a hands-on preservation effort at Shawnee Township Cemetery.

Partnering with the cemetery, the all-volunteer group focused on restoring and cleaning veterans’ headstones — many belonging to some of the township’s founding families. The effort was aimed at recognizing local heroes who helped shape the community and defend the nation. Their work, known as the Tombstone Project, is part of an ongoing initiative to preserve the stories of those who served.

"We've got a great bunch of people out here. This is our fourth trip out, not to this cemetery, but in total. It's a way to pay respect to those that served before us. As a veteran myself, like I said, it's a way to really say thank you to those that we can't say thank you to anymore," said Bob Boissonneault, co-founder of the Tombstone Project.

The group is always looking for more volunteers. If you're interested in helping, you can visit their Facebook page.
