Camp Woodhaven

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A local Girl Scout troop is seeking volunteers to help prepare Camp Woodhaven for a busy summer of troop outings, activities and outdoor adventures.

Girl Scout alumni and community members are invited to participate in a cleanup day on June 14 to help get the camp ready for the season. Volunteers are needed for a variety of projects, including clearing and trimming approximately seven miles of hiking trails, maintaining garden beds and cleaning camp facilities.

Organizers say the work is essential to ensuring campers have a safe and enjoyable experience throughout the summer.

“We've got some garden beds that need some TLC. Our kitchens could use a really good scrub before the girls get in there because there is no like specific cleaning lady. It's, you know. when you finish using your space you clean it up yourself. That's part of what we're teaching the girls. So, it always could use a little extra sprucing," said Sarah Ludlam, troop leader for Girl Scout Troop 2205.

Camp Woodhaven serves throughout West Central Ohio, providing opportunities for outdoor recreation, leadership development and hands-on learning experiences.

“Our area serves over 900 girls. So Girl Scouts is alive and well in the Lima area. You would never know being out front of our property that all this is back here. so the girls are able to come back and just kinda check out from their screen time and all the electronics and enjoy nature,” said Tammy Miller, service delivery manager for the Lima region.

Organizers encourage anyone interested in volunteering to join the effort and help prepare the camp for the hundreds of girls who will visit throughout the summer use the QR code to sign up.
