LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The West Ohio Food Bank received community support Saturday morning during its personal hygiene item drive.
Volunteers and employees gathered in front of the food bank to collect essential hygiene products such as shampoo, body wash, mouthwash and more. The items will be distributed throughout the 11-county region the food bank serves, specifically to help local senior citizens who may be struggling financially.
“SNAP benefits won't cover any type of hygiene items, so doing a drive like this really helps. So, the little bit of budgets that they may have available each month, they can use that for other things, medications, different care that they may need, instead of having to worry about these hygiene items," said Tommie Harner, CEO of the West Ohio Food Bank.
For those who were unable to attend Saturday’s event, Harner said personal hygiene items can still be donated at the food bank Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. An additional collection drive is planned for October, with more details to be announced on the food bank’s Facebook page.
