LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Students at West Central Learning Academy are gaining a competitive edge before graduation, thanks to a soft skills workshop designed to prepare them for the workforce.

The Workforce EDGE workshop is organized by Heartland Image, The Chamber Foundation, and the Allen County Educational Service Center. The program focuses on teaching students practical interviewing skills and helping them find the right job path.

In addition to interview preparation, students complete a personality self-assessment, which helps them better understand how to communicate effectively in different environments. Through hands-on activities, the students learn lessons they can carry with them for life.

The program focuses on teaching students practical interviewing skills and helping them find the right job path.

“So, much that's demanding their attention right now, all these kids. So, what this program does is it engages them. That's what they demand. And you see their faces light up, and it's an on ramp to interviewing for a job, chasing the right career, thinking about college or the skill of trades. And it works great with other soft skills programs too,” says Nick Kellis of Heartland Image.

“I feel like this program is putting us a step ahead of others. You know, our students can take this advantage of learning how to interview, learning the soft skills, learning how to get along in the environment, learning how to not just in the environment, begin learning how to get along with family members, with just the community and the business,” says John Edinger, administrator at West Central Learning Academy.

The group will also offer a professional soft skills workshop this summer to welcome new medical residents at Mercy Health.
