SHAWNEE TWP., Ohio (WLIO) — A couple dozen Kindergarten students from Shawnee Elmwood traded classrooms for kitchens Friday morning as they took part in a special Mother’s Day project at Apollo Career Center.
The students teamed up with culinary arts students at Apollo Career Center to decorate cakes for their mothers ahead of Mother’s Day celebrations this weekend.
The hands-on activity allowed the kindergarteners to showcase their creativity while giving Apollo’s culinary arts students an opportunity to apply the skills they have learned throughout the school year in a real-world setting.

“It’s a great benefit for the students to take what they've learned and pass it along to the young kids who have no experience around the kitchen. The culinary arts students have had a busy year with state testing and running the cafe, so it was nice to have a fun day,” said Carrie Prince.
Prince also thanked Sysco, Walmart and Sara’s Sweets for helping support Friday’s Mother’s Day event.
