LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Mayor Smith announced the appointment of an interim public works director for the City of Lima.
Harpster says she is looking forward to her new role in the city.
Former chief building official Amy Harpster will now be leading the public works department. She has worked at the city for 29 years, starting in code enforcement and working her way up to chief building official.
Harpster says she is looking forward to her new role in the city.
"We have a great staff. We are a department comprised of engineering, parks, and building. I'm honored to work with them and serve the community at the best capacity that we can, and we're all better together," commented Amy Harpster, interim Lima Public Works Director.
Former chief building official Amy Harpster will now be leading the public works department.
Harpster is replacing Kirk Niemeyer, who left back in September 2024 for a position in the private sector.

January 15, 2025, Press Release from the City of Lima: Lima, Ohio — The City of Lima announces the appointment of Amy Harpster as the Interim Director of the Public Works Department. Harpster has been employed by the City for 29 years. She began her career with the City in the Department of Community Development as a Code Enforcement Supervisor and then served as a Utilities Customer Service Manager, the Assistant Building and Zoning Administrator, and as a Building Official.
Harpster holds an Associate of Applied Science degree from Lima Technical College in Electrical Engineering Technology, an Associate of General Studies degree from Cochise College in Arizona, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bluffton University in Organizational Management.
Harpster is certified through the State of Ohio Building Inspection as an Electrical Safety Inspector, Non-Residential Industrial Unit Inspector, and Residential Building Official – Building Plans Examiner. She is also certified through International Code Certifications as a Building Official, Building Plans Examiner, Commercial Mechanical Inspector, Commercial Building Inspector, Residential Inspector, and Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector. Harpster is also a certified City of Lima Electrical Journeyman.
