UNIOPOLIS, Ohio (WLIO) - The Auglaize County Commissioners are seeking a sales tax continuation, which will go before voters in the November election.

The continuation is for a permissive 0.5% sales tax. This sales tax has been collected in Auglaize County for the last 30 years and is used for various expenses in the general revenue fund. This fund supports the main county operations, such as the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office, and this sales tax makes up 20% of the general revenue fund.  Auglaize County officials say a healthy general revenue fund enables future opportunities.

Auglaize County Commissioners seek continuation of 0.5% sales tax in November election

“A healthy general revenue fund has allowed us to secure grant funding. When we look at the numbers from 2020 through 2024, we've been able to secure over $22 million in grant funding, and we're able to do that because we have the funds to be able to match and to be able to say 'we can do this project and we have the operational funds to continue the project once it's complete.' This sales tax could be put on permanently by the commissioners, but it's one of those litmus tests that we say 'okay every 10 years, let's hear from the voters that we're doing a good job,’” says Erica Preston, Auglaize County Administrator.

If you would like to seek more information regarding the levy, the Auglaize County Commissioners will be holding the following public informational meetings:
