WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) — There were a few alien sightings at the Armstrong Air and Space Museum Saturday as visitors enjoyed the artwork of nationally renowned chalk artist David Zinn.

Zinn, known for incorporating the environment into his art, used a cap and bolts in the museum’s concrete to create alien creatures around the Armstrong moon. Many visitors were inspired to try their hand at chalk art.

Chalk Artist David Zinn brings creativity and curiosity to Armstrong Museum

“To all of us, even people who want to deny this, all of us were very confident artists up until the age of five. Anybody who keeps drawing after the age of five deserves applause, because it's hard to keep it up as we get older and we're more self-conscious. So being around kids who don't have that self-consciousness and restraint definitely helps me a lot. And if I can show them an example like, No, you can keep doing this. You don't have to grow up and not make art anymore. Go ahead. Do it. Have fun. I'm hoping it actually helps the grownups more than the kids, because they're the ones who really need it,” said Zinn.

“When it comes to being an astronaut, there's things that we don't really think about, like creativity, discovery. And David really does that as well when it comes to his art, you know, trying to discover things. And you know, even from the person just walking down the street randomly finding his artwork and being a little curious about it, and I think that is something that we still need to see, that curiosity, that discovery, and he really has the ability to bring some imagination into people's just everyday life,” said Logan Rex, communications director at the Armstrong Air and Space Museum.

Thanks to dry weather in the forecast, visitors have a few days to check out Zinn’s creations at the museum.
