AUGLAIZE COUNTY, Ohio (WLIO) — Looking to start 2026 on the right foot, the Heritage Trails Park District is kicking off its Cabin Fever Hiking Series this Sunday at the Lockkeepers House in New Bremen.
The park district is inviting families to walk along the historic Miami and Erie Canal towpath as a way to get active during the winter months. The hike will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 11th, and participants who are signed up for the Grand Lake Health Series can earn points for completing the hike.
The Cabin Fever Hiking Series features one hike per month along the canal and will continue through April.

Start the New Year off right by participating in the 2026 Cabin Fever Hike Series with Heritage Trails Park District! Bundle up the family for a winter hike along the Miami and Erie Canal this Sunday, January 11th from 1:00pm-3:00pm. Begin your hike at the Lockkeepers House, located at 22 S. Water Street, New Bremen.
Experience wintertime views of restored Lock One North, the Lockkeepers House and the historic ‘Bowstring Bridge’ crossing the canal. Then hike at your own pace and witness the sights & sounds of nature along the Towpath Trail.
This event is healthy, fun and free for the whole family. Leashed pets are welcome too! Sign up for the ‘Road to Fitness’ challenge with Grand Lake Health and earn points to win prizes!
Hikers will also enjoy a complimentary trail mix snack provided by the St. Marys Area Resource Team.
More Cabin Fever Hikes will follow on: February 8th, March 8th and April 12th at different locations along the canal.
