“Paying for care is a big concern as Alzheimer's progresses,” said Pam Myers, senior director, programs for the Alzheimer’s Association Northwest Ohio and Central Ohio Chapters. “Putting financial plans in place as soon as the diagnosis has been made can help you secure your financial future.”
The Alzheimer’s Association 2024 Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures reported the cost of caring for people living with Alzheimer’s and dementia is projected to reach $360 billion — a $15 billion increase from a year ago. This does not include unpaid care provided by 414,000 Ohio family caregivers who dedicated 624 million hours of unpaid care valued at $11.427 billion last year.
During the program, attendees will learn how caregiving affects finances and what financial documents caregivers should put in place. This program can help families prepare for useful discussions about financial decisions and planning.
Specific steps to lower the chances of financial abuse and fraud will be covered, and how to create a backup plan in case a caregiver no longer can provide care.
Those concerned about themselves or a loved one can contact the Alzheimer's Association Northwest Ohio Chapter at 419.537.1999 to schedule a care consultation and be connected to other free local resources.
