MINSTER, Ohio (WLIO) - A Minster resident who typically helps others during natural disasters is now cleaning up his own home following severe weather damage.

Dave Meyer, the Ohio area coordinator for Operation Barbecue Relief, had part of his metal roof and attached wooden planks ripped off at his Minster home, exposing some of his barbecue smokers.

Operation Barbecue Relief, which began after an EF-5 tornado destroyed Joplin, Missouri, in 2011, provides hot meals to people recovering from natural disasters. Meyer said it is ironic that, this time, he is the one dealing with the aftermath of severe weather.

Minster man who aids disaster victims now cleaning up his own storm damage

"There is some irony in the fact that I go out to help others during disasters, and not that I need help, but here I am cleaning up my own disaster here. Several of my friends my Operation BBQ Relief have already called and checked in on me and laughingly said 'hey, should we spin up a deployment in your backyard?' So yeah, there's some irony in the fact that I'm the one feeding those and helping those in disaster, and yet, I am the disaster today," says Dave Meyer, Ohio Area Coordinator with Operation BBQ Relief.

Despite the damage, Meyer said he is not letting the storm interfere with his barbecue commitments, noting that he has events scheduled in the near future.
