WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) — Hundreds of vehicles lined up Saturday for the monthly food distribution in Wapakoneta.

With support from the West Ohio Food Bank, volunteers from Victory Center and St. Paul United Church of Christ worked together to distribute essential food items to area families just ahead of the holidays. The need continues to grow, as last month’s distribution helped feed about 1,200 people.

Volunteers say they are grateful for the opportunity to support their community.

Volunteers serve growing need at Wapakoneta food distribution

“Without volunteers, it couldn't happen if we take an average we need about 40 volunteers every month, and we always have 40 or plus. This isn't a one man operation, and it's multiple communities and different people, all ages, from young to old, making this happen. You know that's just what communities ought to do, is to help one another, and that's what we want to do, just be the hands and feet of Christ to our community,” says Pastor Tony Shaw, Victory Center.

The food distribution at the Auglaize County Fairgrounds is held on the third Saturday of each month.
