"Every Vote Counts" was one of the lessons for 3rd graders from Bath Elementary School Wednesday morning.

The students were the first to use the new Allen County Board of Elections voting machines. The classes toured county offices to learn a little about what they do. They were given a "My Favorite Things" sample ballot. They got to vote on several things including favorites dog breed, favorite way to use free time, and favorite U.S. beaches. Educators say getting the students out of the classroom and into the field is a great teaching experience.

"It's really nice that they're able to meet our judges, pretend to be jury members, also be able to cast their ballots for the first time ever," said Amanda Williams, Bath 3rd grade teacher.

"You just had to fill in circles and then you had to put it in a printer and then it counts the votes," explained Landon Gilbert, Bath 3rd grader.

The vote showed the best dog breed of rescue dog won by one vote and the favorites U.S. beach was Myrtle Beach, and believe it or not, reading won for favorite pastime. The students also visited the common pleas court, the jail, and the Bath Township Fire Department.
