Bath Township board of trustees held a special meeting Tuesday morning to address the fire department levy.
The board approved the renewal of the fire department levy to go on the ballot this spring. Fire Chief Joe Kitchen said this is the same levy that has been in place since 2004 with no additional price tag. The levy is a three mil for five years. Kitchen said since the levy's inception it has allowed the department to field a full time staff from a volunteer department and actually is responsible for 85 percent of the department's funding.
"We feel pretty confident that the residents of Bath Township are satisfied with the service we provide," said Kitchen. "This same levy has already been renewed twice. So this is no change when they go to the ballot box, they'll see the same ballot language and the same amount of taxes they're used to paying. This is not an increase."
The levy pays for things such as salaries, facilities, apparatuses and more.
