Boil water advisory was just a precaution and no danger to public

At no point in time was there a danger to the public. That coming from Lima Utilities Director, Mike Caprella this morning at a press conference.

Caprella and Lima Mayor David Berger responding to the water boil advisory that the city was under Wednesday night and into the morning. The water department was doing standard maintenance on the carbon filtration system Tuesday when monitors registered an increase in the turbidity levels. Turbidity has no health issues, but can enable microbial growth. It was found that a malfunction with a valve allowed a small amount of carbon back in the clear well. The valve was secured and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was contacted. They instructed the city to enact a boil water advisory. Water department crews worked through the night taking and testing samples from 52 sources of city water and all came back clear.

Caprella again wants the community to know the water was always safe and the order was a precaution. This is the first time a boil water advisory was ever put into effect for the City of Lima.
