Brand new wrestling facility named after long-time coach

A new wrestling facility for Wapakoneta City Schools has been named after a long time wrestling coach.

Dan Davies was the coach that helped the Wapakoneta wrestling program become stronger and more successful; the new facility was named after Coach Davies in a special ceremony Sunday afternoon that honored him and his legacy.  The facility is located at the football field, and finally gives the wrestling team their own place to practice.

"It's a facility slash locker room that was built for a wrestling team to give them their own wrestling facility," said Kevin Longsworth, the vice president of the Wapakoneta Athletic Boosters.  "Usually they wrestled upstairs in the mezzanine of the gym - now they'll have their own specific wrestling complex where they can get all their training done before the season starts in winter."

Naming the facility after Coach Davies was a no-brainer for the people involved in getting everything together.

"Coach Davies impacted a lot of people, thousands of people, and his family's in the area, friends, alumni, the people that are here today, and we just wanted to honor him with this - it's something he wanted when he was the coach," said Jason Rostorfer, head wrestling coach for Wapakoneta City Schools.

The group also honored Coach Davies with a golf tournament Sunday morning.
