LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — As the nation prepares to mark America’s 250th anniversary, Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Sharon Kennedy spoke to Allen County Republicans on Friday about the country’s founding principles.

Kennedy focused on the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and how those documents shaped the nation’s government and protected individual rights. Kennedy, a member of the America 250-Ohio Commission, said civic education remains a priority as the anniversary approaches.

She said the Ohio Supreme Court will offer civic tours and new exhibits to commemorate the milestone, ending with displays of the nation’s foundational documents.

“I am very excited about those documents. I’m very excited that we have our own constitution among those foundational documents, and I am super excited that students and others who come through and do a tour get to end that tour with being able to start to read those documents and why they’re so important,” Kennedy said.
