The Delphos Recreation Center is hosting a major tournament this weekend.
This is the 13th year for their annual PBA50 Mel Westrich Regional Tournament. This event is open to midwest region Professional Bowlers Association bowlers over the age of 50. The tournament typically brings in over 40 bowlers per year and is welcome for the public to come and watch throughout the weekend. While the tournament is highly competitive, the bowlers look forward to the overall fun they'll have this weekend.
"Just bowling with the guys and having fun, it's just you know, it's just a big family you know guys have been coming here all 13 years. Say, a lot of them were 50 when they started and now 13 years later, they're in 60s, they're super seniors and I'm pushing that myself so yeah it's been a good time," said Bruce VanMetre, owner of Delphos Recreation Center.
"I would come here no matter what, Bruce is spectacular, town is, town's great, the people welcome us in, and you know, it's fun to come here and bowl and when you win, you always want to come back," said Brian Kretzer, who is tournament champion for the past three years.
The first round of the tournament begins on Saturday and the finals will take place on Sunday.
