Area residents have a chance to give back to the community while enjoying the sights of area Christmas lights.

The Shawnee Luminary Night is coming up on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. The new-old tradition is in its second year and is once again collecting donations for the West Ohio Food Bank. Four neighborhoods in Shawnee Township will be decked out with more than 7,500 white paper bag luminaries along with dozens of homes decorated in Christmas lights. It's a chance for the family to come out and celebrate the season while starting a family tradition.

"We're encouraging people, as you exit Indian Brook, we're going to have the Basement Doctor set up with their ambulances, you'll pass off your items for West Ohio Food Bank, whether it's a canned food item, their non-perishables, or monetary donations. They have tremendous buying power so what they can get for a dollar versus us it's not even comparable so we will certainly take monetary donations too," said Jodie Robinson, organizer.

Last year, 966 pounds of food was collected at the Shawnee Luminary Night. The event is free and will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. next Tuesday.
