ELIDA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Elida High School National Honor Society is helping young children discover the importance of reading through Story Times held throughout January.
The Honor Society has partnered with The Story Room Bookstore in Elida to read books to children on Saturdays this month. Each Story Time focuses on a different theme, followed by an activity centered on that same theme. The event gives older students an opportunity to share their love of reading with younger children in the community.
For Junior Jayden Snyder reading became a passion through popular fantasy series.
“It was really just like with those books, it was more of the action aspect of it, and I was really just like it made me want to keep reading more and more as I read the book. And I don't know, I just felt like really kind of like addicted to reading all of them, to be honest with you. I feel like a lot of people think that like reading is like nerdy, I guess you could say, but it's really like you can learn a lot from any kind of book that you read,” says Jayden Snyder, Junior at Elida High School.
Members of the National Honor Society will return to The Story Room Bookstore on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 10:30 a.m. The theme for the upcoming Story Time is big trucks and construction vehicles.
The event is free and open to the public. More information about future events and Story Times at The Story Room Bookstore can be found on its Facebook page.
