LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Ford treated their current and retired employees and their families to a day of fun to say, "Thank you for your hard work."
Hundreds came out to the Ford Family Day Open House on Sunday to tour the facility and enjoy activities like bounce houses, yard, games, and racing Ford R.C. cars. There was also a car show featuring historic to modern Ford vehicles. Even Ford CEO Jim Farley stopped in town to visit employees and commend the plant for their dedication to the brand. The fun, food, and prizes were the company's way of showing appreciation for years of loyalty from the plant's employees.
Money raised from a silent auction and other contests at the open house will be donated to the Volunteer Ramp Crew.
"They have three, four, five generations of employees here, so when you have a family atmosphere where people have worked at Ford at the Lima plant a long time, it really brings the passion and the dedication to the work. And it's a secret ingredient for us here at Lima to help us improve our quality and improve our productivity," said plant manager Lamar Jones.
Money raised from a silent auction and other contests at the open house will be donated to the Volunteer Ramp Crew, a group of Ford retirees that builds free mobility ramps for people in need.
"The rewarding part is the customer seeing the ramp after it's established, creating freedom for them that they ordinarily couldn't have had. Just part of the process. It's a nice group, it's a great group, and I enjoy doing it, and they enjoy doing it, and I'm proud to be part of the team," said Sandy Howard, a member of the volunteer group.
The Volunteer Ramp Crew first got its start around 50 years ago. In the past year, they have installed ramps on 45 homes.
