On the Hancock County ballot, this November voters will decide whether or not to give Findlay City Schools money to make security improvements in a time where school safety is a concern.
This past week the Findlay City Schools board voted unanimously to put a five year 1.5-mill levy on the ballot. If it passes, it will raise around $1.2 million for the school each year. The money will be used for safety and security improvements to the schools such as equipment and training as well as security personnel. The school will also use the funds to improve mental health services for students and teachers in an effort to approach the issue from all sides.
"We're looking at it from a balanced approach," says Findlay City Schools Treasurer Mike Barnhart. "Not only to address a live event that may take place but also to prevent it. Again, trying to balance mental health with the actual nuts and bolts of the security."
The board will make a resolution to proceed with the levy at their next meeting on Monday, August 6, 2018.
