Findlay Man Sentenced to 38 Years to Life in Strangulation Murder

The Findlay man accused of strangling an acquaintance to death is sentenced on 4 charges, including aggravated murder, in Hancock County Common Pleas court.

34 year old Joel Drain pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated murder of 56 year old Randy Grose, one count of grand theft auto, and a third charge of retaliation that was merged with the murder charge. Drain also pleaded guilty to another case of felonious assault, he was sentenced to the state's recommended total of 38 years to life in prison.

Drain originally pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity for the May 14th murder, but was found competent to stand trial. He filed a guilty plea just before his hearing today. Officials say Drain stabbed Grose multiple times in the head and abdomen, but the coroner found strangulation to be the cause of death. He also stole the victim's car.

Drain is eligible for parole on the murder charge after serving 30 full years.
