WAPAKONETA, OH (WLIO) - Wapakoneta Middle School students learn an important lesson about life through glass.
Glass artist Darren Goodman brought his traveling furnace to the school on Monday to demonstrate his skills in glass blowing and shaping. Goodman has traveled the world sharing his glass experience, and he wants people to have an appreciation for the material and how it can represent what individuals go through.
"The one thing that I really hope people can take away from watching my glass experience is not necessarily glass-related, it's life-related. The fact that no matter what happens, we can always learn and grow from these experiences, and they can actually make us stronger and more rich in our lives," says Darren Goodman, Dr. Glass/Professional Glass Artist.
Even though it starts as small pieces, glass can be transformed into great things.
"And what I like to share is the technology, not just from this camera lens to the optical fiber to the glass art that I am actually doing to make my living, but to share the incredible nature of transformation that we can all undergo. Not just particles of sand to produce a material, but to produce the best self that we can," adds Goodman.
Besides doing talks with the 5th through 7th grade students, Goodman also did an extended session today with the middle school art club.
