FINDLAY, Ohio (WLIO) — The “Flame of Hope” made its way through Findlay on Wednesday as part of the 2025 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. The annual event brings together law enforcement officers, first responders and military personnel to carry the torch through Ohio communities, raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics Ohio.

“The torch will travel down Main Street in Findlay,” said Melaine Williams of the Hancock County Board of Developmental Disabilities. “It is representing us sending our athletes to Columbus to compete in the Summer Games this weekend.”

The annual event brings together law enforcement officers, first responders and military personnel to carry the torch through Ohio communities.

“The Special Olympics is very dear to many of us at the police department,” said Brian White of the Findlay Police Department. “We all know someone — maybe a family member — and it’s a good way we can step in and help raise awareness for the cause. Being athletes ourselves, many of us like to get out there and be physically active, so this is a good way we can do that for a good cause.”

Thirty-five athletes from Hancock County are headed to Columbus on Friday, June 13, to compete in the Summer Games. They’ll participate in events including powerlifting, bocce, and track and field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
