University of Findlay launches AI-Powered engagement tool for alumni

FINDLAY, Ohio (WLIO) – The University of Findlay is turning to artificial intelligence to help keep alumni and friends connected to what is going on with the Oiler Nation.

The university has introduced Daphne, a virtual engagement officer, to strengthen communication with about 30,000 alumni and community members who may not be on campus. Through text messages, emails and other media, Daphne will provide updates on volunteering, financial support and other opportunities that benefit students.

“We know that when our alumni are informed, when our friends of the university are tied to the community, when they see what's going on here, and all the great things that we have to share that they are better tied back to their alma mater or to this university in general, and create opportunities that are going to continue to enhance our students today and for the future,” says Ryan Hite, Assistant Vice President for Advancement, University of Findlay.

The virtual engagement officer builds on the university’s broader effort to incorporate AI on campus.

“We're using it in our education, in our departments, to provide opportunities to utilize AI, to enhance, to innovate, to continue to build upon all the colleges here on campus. So, we're doing it in the classroom. We're doing it across our communication standards here at the university, and so with Daphne, we're really just extending that practice and process,” adds Hite.

The University of Findlay is one of only three universities in Ohio using Givzey to create a virtual engagement officer for alumni.

“We're really pleased, I think at the University of Philly to be at the forefront of some of these technologies and utilization. I think there are a number of our peers that are going to be looking at us to see how this works, how this goes, and are really interested to see if it's something that they may implement as well,” says Hite.
