ADA, Ohio (WLIO) – When someone is in cardiac arrest, every second counts. That’s why Lima Memorial Health System donated an automated external defibrillator (AED) to One More Gym in Ada to help in the event of a heart attack.

In addition to training on how to use the AED, Lima Memorial staff also provided hands-only CPR instruction to the public. A few minutes of CPR training could mean a lifetime for someone experiencing cardiac arrest.

In addition to training on how to use the AED, Lima Memorial staff also provided hands-only CPR instruction to the public.

“There's three aspects to it. One, you determine unresponsiveness, call 911. Get an AED, and then you start hands only CPR with the use of an AED. And you know, we're hoping to save that person's life. I don't think people realize that. You know, when somebody goes into sudden cardiac arrest, every 10 seconds, their chance of survival is decreased significantly,” said Doug LaRue, Lima Memorial EMS manager.

LaRue recommends that businesses train employees in hands-only CPR so they are prepared in case of an emergency.
