LIMA, OH (WLIO) - A winter hike to get more in tune with what winter has to offer.
Out at Lippincott Bird Sanctuary, they took participants on the trail and stopped along the way to point out each item they could find on their list.
Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District invited people to join them on a "Solstice Scavenger Hunt" to identify some of the winter aspects of the wildlife around them. Out at Lippincott Bird Sanctuary, they took participants on the trail and stopped along the way to point out each item they could find on their list. Looking for things like birds, trees, and animal tracks. This helps get people out and enjoying nature.
"I hope that people learn how to look for the different types of trees. In the wintertime, even though there's no leaves and other normal features that we think of identifying trees by, the barks have all different textures. Maybe becoming more attuned to the different textures of bark that make the trees unique. Also how to identify some of these winter birds that are still here, still singing all winter long," says Marie Walton, JAMPD naturalist.
JAMPD will continue their events after the new year with Nature Pals on January 2nd. You can visit their website for more information.
