Although it may be frigid outside, there is still plenty to do in nature.
The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District is encouraging people to head out and enjoy the parks during the winter. Whether you take part in one of their guided winter hikes or participate in an indoor educational program or a combination of both. Park Naturalists say don’t let the winter weather detract you from enjoying nature.
Naturalist Dan Hodges explains, “Lots of different birds, it’s easier to find tracks and scat and signs of animals that have been through. So, this is not a dormant time of year. It just takes a little bit of work to find some of these really, really awesome things that you can find right here in the park district.”
The park district also has a YouTube channel that you can enjoy plenty of virtual tours and programs from the comfort of your own home.
