State Issue One has many judges from across the State of Ohio speaking out against what they believe will have catastrophic consequences for our state.
Allen County Common Pleas Court Judge Jeffrey Reed speaking to Lima Rotarians encouraging them to vote "no" on State Issue One which will reduce penalties for crimes of obtaining, possessing, and using illegal drugs.
If the proposed constitutional amendment passes it would make the possession of a deadly drug nothing more than a misdemeanor with punishment being probation. Those proposing the amendment say it will increase funding for treatment programs but court officials say it will tie their hands when it comes to drug treatment.
Judge Reed also stated drug dealers will be laughing at the state as Issue One would make Ohio have some of the most lenient drug laws in the nation. For example, a person found with less than 20 grams of powdered fentanyl would be charged with a misdemeanor with no possibility of jail time. 19-grams of fentanyl is enough to kill approximately 10,000 people.
