LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Young kids got to learn about the eclipse on Friday thanks to the Johnny Appleseed Metro Parks District.
In preparation for Monday's total solar eclipse, the Nature Pals program through the Johnny Appleseed Metro Parks District invited kids ages 3 to 5 for the chance to learn more about the sun, moon, and earth and how they're all connected when it comes to the eclipse. Fun, interactive stations were set up for the kids to experiment with and make their own model of the eclipse to take home with them.
The Johnny Appleseed Metro Park District tells us they want kids to be prepared and learn that natural occurrences such as the eclipse are something that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
"This is a phenomenon—the total solar eclipse—that they can experience right here in Allen County, and it is super rare. Most people only experience one if they're lucky in their whole lives, and it's a really cool natural phenomenon. I love talking about what the animals might be doing during the eclipse and getting them wondering and guessing what could happen because really we don't know a whole lot," explained Marie Walton, naturalist at Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District.
The Johnny Appleseed Metro Parks District will offer two more classes on the "Exciting Eclipse" classes on Saturday, April 6th, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
