FINDLAY, Ohio (WLIO) – The top two defenses in the Blanchard Valley Conference collided Friday night as Liberty-Benton traveled to face Arlington in our Spotlight Game of the Week.
The Eagles came in looking to extend their dominance in the series, having won 20 of the last 21 meetings, while the Red Devils were aiming to snap a two-game skid.
In the opening quarter, Liberty-Benton struck first. Quarterback Connor Barbara fooled the defense with a play fake and connected with his brother, CJ Barbara, for a 34-yard touchdown to put the Eagles on top 7-0.
Arlington answered immediately as senior quarterback Trenton Heacock found Lukas McIllroy, who broke free from defenders and sprinted 62 yards to tie the game at 7.
But Liberty-Benton’s defense and playmaking quickly took control. CJ Barbara added a sack to stall the Red Devils’ drive, and Connor Barbara showcased his dual-threat ability with a 24-yard touchdown run to give the Eagles the lead back.
The junior quarterback wasn’t done, adding another rushing touchdown in the second quarter to extend the margin. From there, the Eagles rolled, pulling away for a dominant 56-13 victory.
With the win, Liberty-Benton continues to show why they’re among the BVC’s best, while Arlington will look to regroup moving forward.
