Ohio's lieutenant governor in Allen County today(10/18/19) getting high school students excited about their next step in life.
Bus after bus unloading the workforce of tomorrow as they participate in MakerFest 2019. Hundreds of students from all around the region hearing from Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted. He tells them they will be entering the workforce at a unique time, as Ohio is creating more jobs than they have people to fill them. It's an "employee's market" and these students need to know how to work it.
"It’s always difficult reaching young people and that’s what we’re trying to do. To let them know that they’ve got to ask the right questions. That they have to have the right kind of attitude and work ethic and stay drug and alcohol free in the workplace. And if they do those kinds of things, that really they're living in a unique time when we’re creating more jobs than we have people to fill those jobs," said Jon Husted, Ohio Lt. Governor.
Husted says the state is working to help students become more employable by working with career centers. Students can get early college credits and even earn industry credentials. Businesses are also offering training and educational opportunities.
"All of these things are designed to help every high school graduate be career or college ready. The state is very invested in making that happen. The Lima community, the region, is invested in making sure these students see what opportunities are out there," said Lt. Gov. Husted.
He says the students should remember that businesses are thirsty for their talent and energy. All they have to do is find the right fit.
