LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Before the Star-Spangled Spectacular lit up the night sky, the Lima Area Concert Band helped kick off the Independence Day celebration with a patriotic performance at Faurot Park.

Musicians gathered at the Faurot Park Pavilion to perform a selection of patriotic favorites that energized the crowd ahead of the evening's drone show and fireworks display. As we celebrate America’s 250, musicians have always played an important role on Independence Day, even as far back as the revolutionary war itself. The concert featured well-known patriotic selections, including "Yankee Doodle Dandy" and "America the Beautiful."

"Well, not only is it the 4th of July, but it's our 250th birthday. I believe every 4th of July should have a band playing somewhere. And I don't mean a rock and roll, I mean concert bands. We just enjoy coming out here and entertaining the crowd as best we can. It's just a very important to us," says John Hill, conductor, Lima Area Concert Band.

The Lima Area Concert Band's next performance, "Welcome to the Cabaret," is scheduled for July 18 at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center. Tickets are available through the Lima Area Concert Band's website.
