You might have believed all the presidential candidates were in Lima tonight. Hillary Clinton, Bernie sanders, Ted Cruz and even Donald trump brought their campaigns to Lima Central Catholic High School. LCC students impersonated the presidential hopefuls for their mock election night, complete with secret service. The candidates took the stage and made their opening statements, demonstrated Super Tuesday, debated, held primary elections, presented their final arguments and voted in the general election. These students had to submit a video explaining why they wanted to represent their candidate. The students had to research their candidates, study the issues and be ready to defend their position. Now these candidates and their classmates have a better understanding of what goes into the campaign election process.
Shannon Daley (Hillary Clinton), Junior at LCC said, "I did learn a lot about Hillary Clinton and her stances on many different things that I wouldn't have known otherwise. I've become very interested in watching the debates on television and now I really understand how this process works and what they go through as a candidate and how many questions they face. It's not just them smiling and giving speeches but there's a lot of hard work that goes into becoming president of the United States."
Spencer Collins, or known tonight as Donald Trump, said he's considering politics in his future and tonight was a way to put some of his knowledge about politics and the businessman himself to the test against his classmates.
Collins (Trump), Senior at LCC said, "I've been very involved in politics for a while and especially when I found out Donald Trump was going to run in the race this year, back in June I was very involved and I just kind of put my foot down like I'm going to learn politics and as time progressed I was like OK this is more and more interesting I think it fits my personality well so I kind of paid attention and when this mock election came about I knew I was very educated about what's going on especially with Donald Trump's perspective so I think it kind of fit well and I mean I learned things along the way because I wanted to go up there and be as educated as possible."
The election was down to Rubio chosen by the republicans and O'Malley chosen for the democrats. Martin O'Malley took the election with two states to go.
