LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Dozens of students from Lima Central Catholic High School spent part of their day outside the classroom Tuesday, marking Earth Day by helping clean up a local park.
Students in grades nine through 12 volunteered their time at Faurot Park, collecting trash and debris throughout the area as part of a community cleanup effort organized by the city’s park rangers. Participants said the effort was about more than just picking up litter — it was an opportunity to give back and take pride in their community.
“Our schools doing a pickup of Farout Park, just because we wanted to help contribute, make sure that our parks and our town is safe and it's clean,” said Lincoln Woods, a junior at Lima Central Catholic.
Lily Whittaker, also a junior, said the event reflects the values of the school and its students.
“I think today is really important because it shows who LCC is, and I think that being a school and going around and cleaning up the park is really good for our community, and I don't want the park to be dirty for everyone, and I think it's a great thing that we do,” Whittaker said.
The cleanup was coordinated by the Lima Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Division, which encourages community groups to get involved in maintaining local green spaces. Officials say those interested in volunteering for future park projects are encouraged to contact the department for more information.
