ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - It was a day of thanks for a couple dozen Lima City School students as they celebrated being a part of “Sparty Friends”.
The mentoring program pairs up a West Middle School student with a younger student from one of the elementary schools. The kids meet up and do various activities throughout the year and today was their Thanksgiving feast. The students say they enjoy being a part of the program and are thankful for each other.
Alexander Lee Trusty, 8th Grader says, “I’m a mentor and we take the kids out to do fun things at the end of the month. We have fun with them, do fun things. We go out to places like the Swedish Corn Maze and have a Thanksgiving feast.”
Monte Godsey, 4th grader, says, “We be having fun and playing.”
School Resource Officer Marissa Kennedy adds, “To see the kids come out of their shell, and to not be afraid after only a few visits they look at them like bigger siblings and a mentor they can lean on”.
There are 32 middle school and elementary school students participating in “Sparty Friends” this school year.
