LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Local people came together to raise awareness and funds to support the homeless within the Lima community.
Our Daily Bread was one of the many locations across the country that took part in "The Coldest Night of the Year" walk. This was the first time Our Daily Bread has participated, and with the great turnout, they say they hope to make it an annual event. On average, Our Daily Bread serves around 120 people a day for their meals and also provides other services like showers and clothing for those in need.
"You know, obviously, it's not the coldest night. But hopefully they do think about earlier in January when it was really cold, and there are people out there like that and I don't have all the answers, but we need to consider that," says Randy Kimpel, Director of Our Daily Bread.
"Every single day, they take care of the least of us in our community providing a warm meal, providing blankets and food and other necessities. And, you know, days like this remind you of how blessed that some of us are and the importance of being able to give back so I'm happy to be here to support," says Sharetta Smith, the Mayor of the City of Lima.
By walking for a good cause, participants say they left feeling good for the Lima Community.
