LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Lima Exchange Club celebrated their 65th anniversary Thursday evening.
The club was founded in 1959 and has spent every year since then working to prevent child abuse, support police, lift up local kids, and find other ways to help around town. They're known for the ACE Scholarships for high school students that excel despite difficult life situations, the Law Officer of the Year Awards, and donating money to countless other projects.
Jack Somerville founded the club in his early 20s. He spoke at the dinner about how much has changed since the beginning and how they got their start.
"We built it from scratch. It took a year to build the Lima Exchange Club, and it took a lot of help from a lot of people, but we ended up with 70 members," Somerville recalled.
If you're interested in the core missions of the Exchange Club, they are always accepting new members.
