LIMA, OH (WLIO) - It was a packed house at the Lima Fire Department as a long-time firefighter retired on Thursday.
Battalion Chief Greg Kirkendall is hanging up his gear after 35 years of service. Dozens of current and retired co-workers came out to wish him well.
Kirkendall started as a firefighter and moved up the ranks over the years, becoming battalion chief in 2009. He credits his success, in part, to his fellow firefighters and his family.
Today was emotional, and he says he will miss the people most.
"Definitely the working relationships with my coworkers. They did an awesome job; they made my life easy. I'm going to miss the camaraderie, the excitement, the boredom with them comes along with the job. It's been an incredible 35 years, and I wouldn't change a thing. I'm so thankful for all them," commented Greg Kirkendall, retired battalion chief of the Lima Fire Department.
Kirkendall will be trying his luck in the food truck industry with his wife during his retirement.
