The NAACP is taking action after they say that an in house investigation for the Lima Police Department surrounding the arrest of Kenyatta Secession was unfair.
The organization says that they will be filing a complaint with the US Justice Department after they say that multiple investigations done within the police department have led to one sided results. The investigation of Secession's arrest last September, where it was claimed that officers pushed her onto her stomach and put their knees in her back, even though she says she told them that she was pregnant, ended with one officer reprimanded and the other suspended - though the violations had nothing to do with use of force.
The president of the Lima NAACP says that there is a continued issue going on in the city.
"We have a systemic issue going on in this community, and it’s directed towards the minority population, African-Americans, and it must stop," said Ronald Fails, the president of the Lima NAACP.
And Secession says that she wants change to come from all of this.
"I hope for better law enforcement, I hope that other officers will learn how to treat people, and respect people, and protect us in the right way, that’s what I’m hoping to gain from this," Secession said.
The NAACP also plans to attend the council meeting on Monday, February 26th to appeal for legislation change.
