LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Four Lima organizations collaborated once again to provide school supplies for children at the "Back2School" block party.
Lines formed quickly as families and children waited to receive bookbags, clothes and supplies for the upcoming school year. South Lima CDC, Fresh and Faded, LACNIP and the Martin Luther King Jr. Neighborhood Association teamed up to take donations to help give kids what they need for school.
Organizers said giving to the community ensures that all kids are provided for, and helps give kids an equal chance with their education.
"Every kid should have a fair chance at education. So, if the one thing that we can do is give them some school supplies to help them out, that's what we're going to do," said Leandra Johnson, an organizer with the event.
"It's really hosted by 'Friends N Family' and it's open to the community and anybody that wants to help or just participate."
Families could also pick up grilled hamburgers and listen to music as they waited, and special shirts promoting the event were raffled off at the block party.
