LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Lima Senior hosted their annual bingo and silent disco night for Disability Awareness Month.

The Joy Project, which is part of DECA at Lima Senior, put together a special kind of bingo night for those who have disabilities. From food to great prizes, each bingo participant had a good time with friends and family. Later in the night, participants were able to dance with headphones on and pick their own song. This gave more music options for attendees.

The advisor of the Joy Project mentioned that she started the program because of her daughter who was born with Down Syndrome. From there, the program grew into a more inclusive project.

"It started a as a down syndrome awareness campaign and has turned into a disability awareness campaign. And what we really like to emphasize is that we're all more alike than we are different. And this is one of several community events that we hold throughout the year," says Chrissy Hood, DECA Advisor and Business Teacher at Lima Senior.

She adds that this event tops off the season, with lots of anticipation and excitement for bingo.
