February 20, 2024 Press Release from Lima Symphony Orchestra: Lima, OH (February 20, 2024) – The Lima Symphony Orchestra will perform together in concert with the Lima Symphony Chorus on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 7:30 PM at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center. Interim choral director Matthew Moquin-Lee will be welcomed beside music director Andrew Crust, presenting a joyful celebration of choral and orchestral works.

The Symphony and Chorus will explore several powerful 19th-century works, featuring guest soloists Kira McGirr, Benjamin Bunsold, Sam Dhobhany, and Lima native Summer Aebker. The first half of the program will revel in the darker side of choral symphonic works with the haunting Erlkönig and Brahms’ funeral song Nänie. Highlighting the evening with a joyful finale will be Beethoven’s triumphant Symphony No. 9 “Choral.” Best known for the exuberant “Ode to Joy” theme, Symphony No. 9 is considered by many to be Beethoven’s masterwork and, furthermore, continues to be a timeless treasure.

The Lima Symphony Chorus is enthusiastic to welcome interim choral director Matthew Moquin-Lee for the remainder of the 2023-2024 season. Moquin-Lee is a distinguished musician, currently earning his Doctorate in Musical Arts in Choral Conducting from the prestigious University of Cincinnati, Conservatory of Music. With nearly fourteen years of experience as choir director of numerous churches, high schools, colleges, and universities, Moquin-Lee will lead the chorus with grace and professionalism.
