April 30, 2024, Press Release from the Lima Symphony Orchestra: Lima, OH (April 30, 2024) – The Lima Symphony Orchestra brings its popular Symphony Storytime to Lima Public Library: Elida Branch this May. The Lima Symphony hosts Symphony Storytime programs in Allen and surrounding counties extending the Symphony’s educational reach and impact. The program, “Colors in Music” introduces mood in music through books and music about colors and beautiful landscapes.
Details: Tuesday, May 14th | 10:30 AM – Lima Public Library: Elida Branch (500 E Kiracofe Ave, Elida, OH)
Children and their families are invited to this free program, thanks to our sponsors. This program will feature new and bestselling children’s books including Bear Sees Colors by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman, Green on Green by Dianne White and Felicita Sala, and Song of the River by Joy Cowley and Kimberly Andrews.
Each book is accompanied by classic repertoire played by members of the Lima Symphony Orchestra. Colors will be introduced through songs and pieces such as Greensleeves and “Lavender’s Blue,” followed by a discussion of mood in music featuring excerpts from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Smetana’s The Moldau. Children will finally learn how colors can represent music, and furthermore, how music can paint pictures. With a focus on creative movement and music literacy, “Symphony Storytime” is designed to spark children’s imaginations and foster a lifelong love of and appreciation for music and literature. This program is appropriate for all ages and is free and open to the public.
These performances are part of the Lima Symphony’s ongoing commitment to music education and their firm belief that music and other arts are critical tools in building strong communities. This project is supported by the following underwriters:
