A local community center is working to make sure residents in the Lima area know they are here for them.
The Mizpah Community Center unveiling a new sign to let people know they are located at the corner of South Central Avenue and 9th Street in Lima. The building is owned by Church Women United and has been around since 1940. The community center continues to offer after school programs as working parents need a safe place for their children. They also offer commodity distribution twice a month providing residents with fresh healthy choice foods and even some sweets. A senior luncheon is also in the works. The center is hoping to make their presence known to assist more residents.
Mizpah Community Center President Roberta Higgins says, “We are starting with the sign so that everybody knows Mizpah Community Center. And that “Mizpah” means that you and anyone is welcome here. All members of the community from the smallest child to the oldest adult is welcome at Mizpah”
Higgins says they love the community and that’s why they are here. The building is now paid off but repairs need to be done. They survive and operate on donations alone. If you are interested in making a donation you can call 419-222-5011.
