LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Four Michigan State all-Big Ten throwers got together at Bath Stadium to teach young track and field athletes at the inaugural "Bath Throws" camp.
The clinic was for kids in seventh through 12th grade and taught techniques on throwing for shot put and discus. Camp leader Xavier Griffiths, a rising senior at MSU, said he worked with his teammates to help put on a clinic for the field side of the sport. Griffiths, a Lima native and an IMG Academy graduate, added that reconnecting with his community through the camp has been an honor.
"I'm super excited to be back here, especially to get back to all the Bath people. Even though I graduated from IMG, I'll always call Bath my high school," said Griffiths.
"It's nice to be a part of the community. It's especially cool that Bath was able to help us do this and like letting us use their facilities, which I'm very grateful for."
Officials with Bath High School said private sessions were sold out within 48 hours of going live and the community fully supported the camp.
"Our athletic director was super supportive of the idea. Any time that we can bring youth together with great mentors is a win for education," said Lori Griffiths, Bath High School EMIS manager.
The event continues Sunday with individual lessons between the all-league throwers and the local youth.
